Understanding Cognitive Baseline Metrics & Percentiles

Your performance across mental agility tests is not a static measure of raw intelligence; rather, it reflects dynamic executive function, attentional allocation, and neuromodulatory arousal. Tracking these scores longitudinally provides insight into cognitive stability, recovery, and daily readiness.

How Percentile Norms Are Derived

Each benchmark on CortexCrunch maps raw performance (such as reaction latency in milliseconds or span capacity in working memory) against calibrated Gaussian distribution curves. A percentile rank indicates the proportion of reference trials that fell below your recorded score. Because single trials are susceptible to motor errors or momentary sensory distractions, your aggregate Brain Score normalizes performance across distinct cognitive domains to minimize stochastic noise.

Circadian Rhythms and Cognitive Variance

Processing speed and executive control fluctuate significantly throughout the day according to core body temperature and circadian cortisol/melatonin profiles. Most individuals experience peak psychomotor speed in late morning or early evening. To establish an accurate, reliable cognitive baseline, aim to complete benchmark sessions under consistent conditions (similar time of day, lighting, and hydration levels).
